Malin Folkesson, from the INTERPOL Environmental Security Programme, provides her perspective on the current situation and future challenges related to pollution criminality. She will speak about 30 Days of Action, a global law enforcement operation carried out in June 2017, which became the largest law enforcement effort ever to tackle pollution crime.
Environmental Crime is the fourth largest crime area globally and it is increasing by five to seven per cent every year. Through criminal convergence and illicit investments, pollution crime is directly related to financial crime, further contributing to a range of illicit activities that increase air pollution and land contamination, and impacts the quality of water resources.
