SwedCham’s Sustainability Committee has initiated a campaign: #tripleRhero campaign to aid Singapore’s transformation to become a more environmentally sustainable society. By using leverage from well-known Swedish brands like IKEA, the campaign aims to create a movement to improve waste management in Singapore and to promote initiatives related to the three R’s; Reduce, Reuse and Recycle.

The purpose of the first event is to raise awareness about the issues connected to the use of disposable plastics. The Launch event will be hosted at IKEA together with SwedCham member companies, Swedish Embassy and Business Sweden (Team Sweden), with a special mention to the SwedCham sustainability committee members; IKEA, Nöjdhs, Punkt who designed the campaign logo and campaign graphics, and Lagom who supplied the campaign t-shirts. The campaign will target the Singaporean consumers, educate them in the subject and encourage them to lead by example. The objective is to get 100 000 people to sign the pledge to reduce their use of disposable plastics.

Facts about the use of disposable plastics in Singapore:

  • Each person in Singapore uses 1.6 plastic bags every day. Together, these bags become over 3 BILLION in one year.
  • Close to 1,5 million disposable bottles are consumed in Singapore. Every day. In one year, these bottles add up to 500 MILLION.
  • On average, a person in Singapore uses 80 single use plates in one year. Together, we dispose of around 500 MILLION in a year.
